The IP of the router is 192.168.1.1, the machine, xbox and ethernet get their IPs from DHCP.  The machine has McAfee security center on it, and has had Windows Firewall turned on (recently turned it off).

khm. no they don't.
the routers DHCP gives adreses on request, but only to the direct device that is asking him (directly connected device). the DHCP can't give IP adress to the XBox if the XBox is not connected to the router/DHCP. if router is 192.168.1.1 and laptop is connected to it as 192.168.1.xxx (with the wireless, right?) then the Laptops wired NIC IP should be set manually to... i don't know, lets say 10.10.10.1 and the Xbox should be 10.10.10.2. and the gatewayfor Xbox would be the IP of the laptop (10.10.10.1).

P.S. the other subnet can be 192.168.2.xxx as well but i would suggest 10.10.x.x to avoid typos somewhere.

indeed, it doesn't... but you got the general idea now?
It is important to understand the basics of routing, then you can connect enything to everything.

Ok,
I will have to check tonight on my 8600 (which it does work).  This still doesn't explain why my wireless won't work at all when it is bridged on my 6400, right?

Thanks

what windows do you have on that 6400? and what Windows on the previous 8xxx ?
and if it takes days, why not buy a cable and connect the xbox like it should be? :-)

I took a look at it, and it doesn't show IP address information for the components of the bridge, just the IP information for the "bridge" itself, which at home, on the 8600 is 192.168.2.* IP information, but again, that doesn't work with my 6400.

Very frustrated!

Windows XP Home on the old machine, Windows XP Media Center Edition on the new one.  2 reasons I don't connect with the cable:

1.  The router is on the opposite end of the house on the next floor up :)
2.  I am having the same problem with some other XP Home machines at work that I want to do the same thing, so I have the feeling that it is some sort of setting that I am missing, but have no idea.

Thanks
