Network cable unplugged error in GX1

Question

I have an Optiplex GX1 running XP with an integrated card and a second card installed.  The integrated card stopped working, so I installed the second and it worked for a while, now I get network cable unplugged error from this card as well.  I've tried different cables and it still will not read.  I've uninstalled and reinstalled with no result.  How can I get it to read the cable again?

What is the computer connected to? Perhaps the port/device on the other side of the network cable has gone bad.

I've tried connecting it to a hub, directly to another computer, and to a broadband modem. My second computer connects to all three without a problem, but this one won't read anything

Make sure the onboard ethernet is disabled in the bios.
