Network cable unplugged error when its not!

Hi!

I'm hoping somebody might be able to help me but I fear the worst - that my network adapter is bad. I'm using an Inspiron 1150. I keep getting a 'A network cable is unplugged' error. This can happen anywhere from every few seconds to every 5 minutes or so. When I get the error I'm unable to access the internet (I'm at a college and connect to their network via an ethernet cable) I've watched the lights on the network connection in the back and they reflect this behavior, they turn off every so often. I know this isn't my cable or the actual connection because I connected my laptop to my roomate's network cable, which is functioning correctly, and had the same problem. I tried reinstalling the network adapter drivers, to no avail. Any suggestions? Its driving me nuts! Thanks!

I figured as much. I know enough about computer repair to know that all the signs point to a bad adapter. The good news is that I'm still under my 3 yr. warranty, so if I need a new motherboard (and I'm sure I do since its an on board adapter) replacing it shouldn't cost me a dime. Thanks for the advice, it is much appreciated!

I am afraid you might be right. Your hardware, connector or network IC is defective. And the solution is NOT pretty. Motherboard replacement is expensive and difficult if you do it yourself. I would suggest getting a G router (cheap) and connect it to your network and use wireless on your laptop. Give your more movement freedom and no need for ethernet cable and connection.
