Until the dsl modem is plugged in and you are actually making a nework connection, the technically the network cable is unplugged. If you still have the problem have the dsl modem is in service, then you will have problems.
Note that the 1394 connection is your firewire port. Technically, it can be used as a network connection, but more commonly it is used to connect to an external hard drive or video camera.
