Has anyone mentioned IRQ/Conflicts? Have you checked your device manager for any problems? Go to START> SETTINGS> CONTROL PANEL>SYSTEM> HARDWARE MANAGER> NETWORK ADAPTERS From the drop down menu check if there is a red X or a yellow exclamation mark present. Right click on the adapter and click on properties for more information and to update the drivers. You will need your cd of your operating system when asked. If all else fails you can buy a usb network card that does not need to be installed inside the computer.
I know the cable modem works, because it works with my laptop which runs Windows 98. When I plug the cable into the Dimesion tower, the light flashes yellow. Any advice?
Cable modems typically need to be reset by powering them down for 3-5 minutes before they will accept a MAC address from a new device. So when switching between the laptop and the tower:
1. Shut down the cable modem.
2. Shut down the tower, and connect the Ethernet cable from the tower to the modem.
3. Wait five minutes.
4. Turn on the modem, and wait until it has connected syccessfully to the cable modem.
5. Turn on the tower.
The best fix is to buy a small router, and connect both the laptop and the tower to the LAN side of the router. Connect the WAN side of the router to the cable modem. That way, the cable system will only "see" the MAC address of the router.

I bought the USB network card for $30 and it works perfectly. Thanks for the advice. Neither Dell nor TimeWarner suggested that.
