Network card says no cable when there is...

Hello,

My Inspiron 5100 is telling me that there is no network cable connected when in fact there is. I have tried several different cables as well as plugging a different system into this outlet and they all work fine. Device manager says the device is working fineok but....  Any suggestions on where to look or what to try?

Thanks

Michael

Hello

I just went through this problem with my 6000. On mine theres an option in the "quickset" software to deactivate internal network card while on battery. Not sure if you have that quickset software but if you do thats your problem.

Thank you for the reply but it is not this. The power light comes on at the cat 5 plug when I insert a cable but the activity light does not come on and the activity light at the switch does not come on either. Device manager says that the device is working properly so I am assuming that it is a software setting somewhere but I do not know where that somewhere is....... Help
