Network card stuffed?
I've got a Dimension 3000. My network connection was working fine till a week ago when I started getting limited connectivity and then after a while couldn't even connect to my LAN anymore. The network card is an Intel PRO/100 VE one. I thought it was a faulty cable or something at first so I plugged the cable into another machine. The cable worked fine. I've tried all sorts of things one at a time and it's made no difference. I've:
- Ran the Intel basic diagnostics tests. All tests passed except the PHY loopback and Link tests (I guess that's because it just didn't have a connection at all)
- Uninstalled network adapter and let windows pick up new hardware
- Tried assigning a static IP
- Ran netsh winsock reset catalog and rebooted
- Ran netsh int ip reset and rebooted
- Tried Msconfig. Went to Startup tab, clicked "Disable All" then went to Services tab, hid all Microsoft Services and then unticked all third party services and rebooted
- Tried running Microsoft Antispyware. It picked up nothing unusual
- Tried running hijackthis and report did not show anything unusual
- Tried assigning a static IP
- Ran netsh winsock reset catalog and rebooted
- Ran netsh int ip reset and rebooted
- Tried Msconfig. Went to Startup tab, clicked "Disable All" then went to Services tab, hid all Microsoft Services and then unticked all third party services and rebooted
- Tried running Microsoft Antispyware. It picked up nothing unusual
- Tried running hijackthis and report did not show anything unusual
I also noticed the network status link light at the back of the PC isn't lighting up working anymore.
Has anyone had the same problem? Does that sound like the Intel NIC is stuffed? I'm not convinced that it's stuffed because I've only had this Dell PC for 3 months.
