gdsykes,

You should be fine with any major brand (Linksys, D-LInk, Netgear, Belkin) wireless network adapter in the desktop.  You have your choice of a PCI card or a USB wireless network adapter.  Configure both wireless adapters for ad hoc mode and make sure they are in the same work group and on the same channel.

My Axim X5 has a Linksys CF card, but runs in infrastructure mode since I have a wireless router/access point.  The Axim can browse the internet or any of the PCs on the LAN.  You will have to configure the L733r for internet Connection Sharing (ICS) because you do not have a router.  ICS effectively emulates a router when enabled.

Hi,

Thank you!  That should be really easy, but I have been looking at the USB ones and the PCI's.  Do the PCI's get a better range? I'd rather have the USB because it would be much easier for installation! Right? Just plug it in! But if the range is not as good I'll take the PCI because I want good range! Thank you!

gdsykes,

I'm afraid I cannot offer an opinion on the range of the PCI adapter vs. the USB.  But one of the concerns I have always had about the PCI adapters is that they typically are installed in mini- or mid-tower PCs (true desktops are a thing of the past) sitting on the floor and the floor is the last place you want to place a radio antenna.  But I can't backup the opinoin with any empirical evidence, it's just a gut feeling.  The USB adapter usually comes with a 4-6 foot cable so you have some antenna placement capability.

Yes, the USB adapter is easier to install since you don't have to open the case.
