Network Connection Malfunction

I am using Win7 Pro 64 Bit on a Precision T3500.  The AV software is FSecure Internet Security 2011.  At various times during the work day FSecure reports "Network Connections: Malfunction".  When this occurs, some applications cannot access information on the domain server, while others are unaffected.  The only way to fix the issue is to reboot..  Other systems on the domain do not have this problem, but they are all using Win XP Pro 32 Bit.  I use other Win 7 Pro 64 Bit systems in other locations that do not have this problem.

I was suspicious that power management might be the culprit and tried to disable all sleep/standby/hibernate options on the system.  The "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" option under the network adapter properties cannot be persistently disabled.  That is, I can disable the option, but after reboot it is enabled again.  I have edited the registry keys affecting this and have found that the key is rewritten after each boot.  The key is found at  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E972-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002bE10318}\DeviceNumber and is the PnPCapabilities Key set to Hex 38 for disabled.  

I disabled all optional startup services using MsConfig and found that the option remained disabled after reboot, but I really don't have the time to test 100+ services one at a time to see which is the culprit. 

I disabled the onboard adapter, added a PCI network card and removed the drivers for the old card, but the problem remained.  I disabled hibernation using the powercfg -h off command, but the problem remained.

Does anyone have a recommendation for dealing with this annoying issue?  Thanks in advance for any help.

Try running Finding System Information REMOVE YOUR PRODUCT ID and post the rest of the information back here.

Rick,

Thanks for the response.  I have attached the file systinfo.txt to this post.  I don't know if it is significant, but the system is using a static IP on the domain.  Thanks again for any insight you can provide into this issue.

Lee,

 

Have you every updated the firmware in your router or have your ISP do this?

 

The only network card I see is the D-Link DGE-530T Gigabit Ethernet Adapter (rev.B), but I see Broadcom drivers for this system. Do you have the wireless mini card?

 

Do you use Dell Control point or have it installed?

 

Did you try this with the firewall disabled?

 

F-Secure Internet Security Suite
Navigate to the system tray on the bottom right-hand corner and look for the blue icon.
    * Right click that-> Select Unload.
    * Select: "Unload and allow all network traffic"
    * Select Unload to confirm deactivation of F-Secure Internet Security
    * You will be asked to enter your Parental Control Password. Please enter it and click "OK."
    * The F-Secure sign should now be surrounded by a red circle with a strike-through.

Rick,

Thanks for the suggestions.  I haven't been to that office in a few days, but I will get there later this week.  I'll try the router update and FSecure config change, but I'm doubtful the router will do much.  The problem typically is on workstation to domain server communication behind the router, not communication through the router to the outside world.

If you cannot find the settings for the F Secure firewall, you may need to contact them for the correct procedure.
