Network connection problem

Question

Several days ago, I posted a message in this Network section, regarding an error message I keep getting every time I connect to AOL  ( 'AOL has detected an error with your connection to the INternet'). Unfortunately, I haven't gotten any answer to this so far. IN the meantime, however, I 've been talking to many people  ( including people from other forums here) and checking the Knowledge Base and looking through different sites ( besides having installed about 5-7 different spyware, antiviral, firewalls and who knows what else!!). And I discovered another problem, which now I wonder if it is related to the original one: When I go to the * Control Panels*- * Network Connections*, there is NOTHING listed there. As if I had no connections whatsoever. Needless to say, I do connect to the INternet  ( otherwise I wouldn't be able to write this, I suppose!), but there is nothing that documents it, at least not through my 'network Connections' panel. What can I do now? Eduardo

HMm, not very encouraging!

I suppose I should give some more info,anyway :

I use Road Runner as my ISP, via cable modem. I have a Dimension 8200, 768 MB RAM. And , like I said in my original message from last week, I do not use AOL at all for INternet access, but still I do need INternet when I receive messages with attachments or when I need to go to my favorite AOL places. ONly now that it doesn't work, did I realize how many things in AOL depend on the Internet access!

Have you tried installing the Networking Options from Add/Remove Programs and then Add/Remove Windows Components?

Well, now I did follow your suggestion, JMWills and to no avail. I still have nothing in my Network Connections. Maybe that is the way it is meant to be when you have cable modem?  Just wondering. Since, in fact, my only big problem continues being the connection between INternet and AOL. Everything else is ok.
