network connections

Why is there no upgrade to allow my Intel proset wireless card to hook up with my USR 8054 wireless router at speeds greater than 54Mbps??  My USR router can connect wirelessly at 125 Mbps and my wifes 2400 Dell with a USR wireless PCMIA card hooks up at 125 Mbps all the time. Why is there no upgrade with Intel that allows this kind of connection speed. Right now I am thinking USR all the way for connection speed. By the way the fastest I can ethernet conect is 100 Mbps. Next time you are waiting for a page to load think about the card speed, 54 is slow compared to what is available.

you're lucky. IEEE's 802.11 standards cap wireless at 54 Mbps so wifi devices are not supposed to go faster than that (and in my experience, barely ever get even that fast)

Thru compression my USR 8054 with an update allows for connection speeds at about 125Mbps per sec. Linksys will allow these types of speed but you have to pay for the software. So why doesn't Dell still sell USR(US Robotics) systems, because I am interested in the new g wireless system.

Do you have an internet connection that allows speeds faster than 54 Mbps?  I doubt it.  Even the fastest cable internet providers don't have speeds faster than about 15 Mbps.  Why do you think you need something faster than 54 Mbps?
