On any computer running Windows XP with SP1, disable the Windows XP firewall. It will not allow File and Printer Sharing. On computers running Windows XP with SP2, make sure that the Windows XP firewall has File and Printer Sharing checked off on the Exceptions tab. If you are running any third party firewalls, like those provided by such programs as Zone Alarm, Norton Internet Security, or McAfee Security Suite, make sure they are configured to allow local network traffic.

Steve, I did get the network running.  I had to turn off the firewalls on all computers and had to turn off Norton Security on the Dimension and Laptop.  Do I not have to have any security on the Dimension and Laptop and do I keep all of the firewalls turned off?  When I turn the enable network protection on the Trend Micro PC-cillin virus program on the XPS (server) the network will not work.  How do I get security for my network?

You need to figure out how to properly configure the firewall (you should only be running one firewall) so that local network access is allowed.  This is usually fairly simple, but I am unfamiliar with the program(s) you may be using so I can't provide details.
