Network Ethernet Card/Wire Question
I am purchasing a new Dimension 8400 (3.0 Ghz, 1GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive). It will have the integrated Gigabit Ethernet Card. I am going to network it to my existing Dimension 8300 which has the old 10/100 Intel PRO ethernet card. I am using a Linksys Etherfast Cable/DSL Router Model #BEFSR41. My question(s) are: Will I have to use Category 5 wiring since the older computer will still have the 10/100 card? Will this router only accept Category 5 wiring? Or will I be able to use the Category 6 wiring? Thanks!

Tex57,
Most likely the cable you will purchase for the new D8400 will be cat5e, which will work just fine. You do not need to replace any existing cabling. Understand that your router supports only 100Mbps, so the gigabit NIC in the new D8400 will match that speed.
