Which icon are you referring to, the one put there by the Windows wireless utility or the one put there by the utility that goes with your wireless network adapter?  Which one of these utilities is managing your wireless network connection?

If Windows is managing the wireless connection, then whatever the icon for the adapter's wireless utility says, is meaningless, except the signal strength.  You could try temporarily changing things to let the adapter's utility manage the network, make sure it works, then change back to the Windows utility and that might make them say the same thing, at least until you change something else.

Okay...the signal strength(99% of the time) is always Excellent...the ony time it prompts that "unsecure" is when my speed slows down or "drops".  I changed my channel from 6 to 11 but I was still experiencing the same thing-i thought maybe it was something else i was not aware of!  I will take your advice however and let the Intel Pro Utility manage my connection-I have always just let Windows do it( DOES IT MAKE A DIFFERENCE?)

It really doesn't make a difference, but I have always found the Windows utility is much easier to deal with.  I was not suggesting that you make the change forewver, just to do it temporarily to see if it fixes the inconsistency that seems to be bugging you.
