Network Interface Card for XPS R400

I need to install an NIC for my XPS R400 to connect with a Versalink 327W which is a 10/100 Base-T ethernet connection. Can anyone recommend one? Thanks.

Any 10/100 PCI ethernet adapter should work.  You should be able to find one at places like Frey's, CompUSA, Walmart, Radioshack, Office Depot, etc. for about $10.

johnszeker,

Dell offered the 3Com 3C905 model of NIC at the time that the XPSR was in production.  You can find one on newegg.com.  Check this link:

Pretty much any PCI network card will work as long as it includes drivers for the version of Windows that is on the XPSR 400.  Here is a less expensive model from TrendNet:

Thanks, Big Brother! When I talked to Dell, an unintelligible conversation took place, informing me that the original part was not in production any more (which I already knew from trying to order it on-line). Anyway, that was it... no upgrades, no replacements... sorry sir, but we can't.... etc, etc.

Thanks again. I ordered the 3com card, with free shipping. Great!

Hi Bigbrother,
I got the NIC from Newegg in timely fashion, and was able to install the PCI card but was unable to find the 3 pin connector on the system board. Can you or anyone help me locate it? My computer is dismantled on my office floor and I'm on my laptop with dialup. Any help you could give would be immensely appreciated!
Thanks,
John

Are you asking about the Wake On LAN connector?  If so, there is no such connector on the motherboard, as the computer assumes that the Wake on LAN connection will take place through the PCI connector.  Only older model computers have pins for the Wake ON LAN connector.

Thanks. I finally got through to Dell and they told me exactly what you said. Appreciate your help. It's now installed, but I've yet to hook up DSL. Thanks again.
