Network Interface Card (NIC) has intermittent operation

Question

Hello, I have a very strange problem right here, i want to connet my notebook (Inspiron 1300)  to an internet provider, he is using hub and i'm using my LAN the UTP cable is about 100 meter, the issue here is that when i connect the cable to my LAN the stauts on the computer keep connect and disconnet, (some time it did work then it back again unworking), so i bring my other Notebook (Acer) it's just work properly, then i connect the (Inspiron 1300) to another network (the cable LAN here is about 20 meter) so 'inspiron' work properly, NOW WHAT SHOULD I DO, I need it on the 100 meter Network and please send me your answer as soon as possible. Note: please if you are not the person who incharge of answering these kind of question could u please forward it or replay it with the properate email that i should contact, and by the way your site is not an easy to search, it's maybe the hardest to get information between all techinolgy sites. thank Saif Nagim AlNazari

You may want to use a hub/repeater somewhere between the 100M (~300ft). The distance could explain why you are having issues with connectivity.

thank u for replying, i thought it's cable lengh issue, but when i use the other laptop (Acer) it's work properly, that what make me so bizzare about the whole thing.

for testing just get a short length of cat5 and connect it to the hub at the same port...if it (Inspiron) works then the issue is the 100m cable. Message Edited by xcator on 11-13-200611:40 AM
