Network interface card

I am getting ready to sign up for broadband instead of dial-up.  They tell me i need a network interface card.  I check on my computer and it lists a Intel Pro/100 VE network connection under network adapters.  Is this what I need or do I need something else?  Any help would be appreciated because I am pretty clueless when it comes to technical details of the computer.

Yes, the Intel Pro is the network card you need for a broadband connection.  You should be set.

Hey,

Firstly congrats for having ur dsl connection !!

Just wanted to give u few basic info...Yes u do have a NIC card on ur computer.. the only thing that u need to do is for a broad band connection u do have a ethernet cable that needs to be connected from back of the modem to the ethernet card on ur computer.

The moment its connected > check LAN under network connctions and that wud show as connected. If its says connected ur ready to go on with ur hi-speed dsl

any issues feel free to revevert back

Cheers !!

I checked under network connections, and it says network cable unplugged.  So I assume that I need to do something else.  But I am not sure I know how or what I am doing.  Is this something I need to do before the technician comes to install or do they do this?

I don't know how I could have made it more clear.  If there is not a working network device plugged into the ehthernet card, then the network cable is unplugged.  As soon as you plug it into a dsl modem that is turned on, the message will go away.

Do you have a network cable plugged into the ethernet port on your computer and into a networking device like a dsl modem, hub or router that is powered on?  If not, then that is why it says "Network cable unplugged".  Once the technician comes with the dsl modem, they will likely plug the cable in at both ends.

Steve,

I don't think I have anything plugged in.  I am getting ready to go to broadband with our local utility company and they only said I need I needed a network card (which I now know that I have).  So I just assumed that they would bring anything else that I needed.  But the last post had me a little confused.  Like I should already have a cable.  I Just assumed that my computer said network cable unplugged because I am still using dial-up.  Is this correct or am I wrong. I am not sure it ever said anything else.

It says Network cable unplugged because the network cable is unplugged.  What else can I say.
