Network Issues with Dim3000, Insp1501

Question

I have tried many different times to set up a network between my Dimension 3000 and my Inspiron 1501 laptop. We recently added a Vostro 1000 laptop also. None of the file or print sharing will work between these computers, but we can use internet (router is Linksys WRT-54G). I am looking at getting a wireless printer, and am curious if it's worth the extra money (ie. is it going to work if the network isn't setting up properly-I even had a computer tech look at it, and even he was puzzled. I know of another instance where file/print sharing wouldn't work on their system.   All 3 machines are XP Professional. The router is wired to the Dimension desktop. The number one cause for networks not working is improper configuration of third party firewall programs (Norton, McAfee, Zone Alarm).  These must be configured to allow local network access.   Steve

What's the easiest way to find out the correct setting and the current setting?

The easiest way for you is to use the Help files or the documentation that came with the firewall software.   Steve
