Network Problem with Vostro 410

Hi all,

This is my first ever post, so please bear with me!

I've just had to format and re-install Windows XP to a Dell Vostro 410 due to an overwhelming virus. Unfortunately my predecessor had done something similar and deleted the extra partitions, so the Dell Recovery is no longer available. We also no longer have the original drivers installation CD.

Everything went smoothly to begin with. I've done the Windows installation, and I've installed the drivers for Dell System Utility, Chipset, Video, Network and Audio, all from the Dell site, and in that order. The only glitch came with the Video drivers, which require the .NET framework, so I'm downloading that from Microsoft as I type.

The problem is that despite installing the drivers, there is no sign of my network card in the Device Manager list. Instead, I have a number of items under System Devices which have a little yellow exclamation mark alongside them. Specifically, these are:

Intel G33/G31/P35 Express Chipset PCI Express Root Port - 29C1

Intel ICH9 Family PCI Express Root Port 1 - 294O

Intel IHC9 Family PCI Express Root Port 6 - 294A

All three of these have the same error: "This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use (Code 12)." Under the Resources tab, there are no further details given, just the same message.

Any inspiration? I presume that this problem is related to the absence of the network card from my system, which clearly leaves me a bit stuck, so any advice gratefully received!

Ben

I have same issue when I reinstll xp from my one year vostro420/220.

I think that is a tricky that we can not  reinstall system from org. dell CD. we must pay technicall support fees.

Problem solved!

I found that if I re-installed Windows XP, then I installed Service Pack 1, Service Pack 2 and Service Pack 3, then I was able to install the network card drivers in the usual way.

Obviously I had to download all three service packs separately and burn them to a CD, as I couldn't get internet access until after fixing the network card, but once I'd done that everything worked fine.

Hope you have similar success!
