I have the Broadcom 440x 10/100 Intregrated Controller. It isn't listed under the device manager as a network adapter either. It is listed as an Unknown Device. Nothing else is coming up as a problem. I am using a cable modem to get online too. I don't know if that makes a difference or not.
When I uninstalled it and then put it back in. It would go into the Unkown Device folder in device manager. I watched it download so I know it did. I have tried 2 different downloads. I first downloaded the
R64645.EXE. Then when that one didn't work either I tried the
R56237.EXE. I still get that yellow exclamation point next to the unkown device.
Thanks for all your help. I talked to tech support and they said that I have to have the ethernet card changed and that it is built into the motherboard. So they are sending someone out to fix it for me. I appreaciate all you did to help me.

Which network adapter do you have on that machine? Are there any other devices in device manager showing as problem devices? If so, which ones?

Exactly what happens when you try to install the driver for this adapter? Which file did you download?

Try reinstalling the chipset drivers for your motherboard:
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/type.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&SystemID=DIM_PNT_CEL_2350&category=27&os=WW1&osl=en&deviceid=3268&devlib=27
Once these are reinstalled try to again install the drivers for the network adapter.

Dang I tried that too and it still isn't working. This is so frustrating. I just don't know why it did this.
Thanks so much for everything you are doing.

Did a new NIC fix the problem? I can buy a new NIC if that all the problem is (I'm having the same issues with the yellow ! and the unknown device).

Please see my reply under "NIC = Unknown Device!"
There seem to be a lot of us with this problem. Let me know if the new NIC works for you!
