Yes, you could spend about $40 on a USB ethernet adapter which usually doesn't work too well, or, you could spend $10 on an a PCI ethernet adatper which will always work.

Unplug the USB cable, and it should automatically connect throught the ethernet port if it is plugged into the router.

I can connect the modem to the router, I just can't connect the computer to the router as it connects through a usb port, not an ethernet card.

What I want to know is if there is a way to connect to to the modem through the ethernet card, though USB.

No, I know how to install it, what would I need to make the computer (or modem) realise that it's going through the ethernet card and not the USB cable.

You don't say which model computer you old computer is, so it is impossible to provide details.   Basically, you open the case, find a free PCI slot, remove one screw to remove the pack panel plate for that PCI slot.  Push the new PCI network card into the slot, close the computer case, and install drivers for the network card.

If your modem cannot connect to the router by ethernet, then you will need a new modem as it is impossible to find a router that can connect to a modem by USB.

How would I set that up?

Okay, I'll go out tomorrow and pick up the ethernet adapter.

So I'll just get this straight.

I install the ethernet adapter and plug it into port 1 on teh router and connect teh router to the modem. Will it automatically detect the router.

And after I;ve done that is there anything I have to do on the other computer with the wireless adapter, to make it pick up the router? Or will it automatically connect to it when within range?
