Network Sharing Question

I recently bought a new Inspiron Desktop. I am running 2 laptops and one desktop on my home network. I am sharing the files and folders for all on my network. Before today my desktop had XP. One I allowed the file to be shared all I had to do on my laptops was double click the desktop icon and I had full access.   Now that the desktop is running vista, it prompts me for a username and password. Is there a way to disable that feature so I can just log into the computer. Also what would be considered the username? It is the name of the computer like HOME-PC or the name that appears on the login screen?   I also cannot find my printer either. I think this might be due to the fact that I have not connected via the username and password.
