Networking for Dummies
I need help with networking. I really don't know much about it and am having trouble understanding how it works. What I would like to know is, how can I get three desktop computers in one household to be able to access the internet at the same time when I have a dial up connection through bluelight, (no dsl, cable, or any high speed internet connection). Each of my pc's has a network adapter, and I have a True Mobile Wireless Router. I also have two ethernet cables, but they are somewhat short, and are not long enough to connect any of the pc's together nor to the router. It may seem simple, but I am totally confused. Do I need to purchase longer ethernet cables? Or is there some other kind of hardware or cables that I need? The only thing I do not want is to change my type of internet connection. I would like to keep dial up through bluelight at $9.99 per month. Can someone help me?

You need a cable or DSL connection. I got a letter yesterday from the local phone company saying I can now get DSL. I have had cable service for 4 1/2 years. I am not going to change.
Here is a link to a site called the "Broadband Report" http://www.broadbandreports.com/ and information on wireless networking at Linksys http://www.linksys.com/edu/ .

It's possible to share a dialup connection by using Microsoft's Internet Connection Sharing feature. Here's an article from HomeNetHelp.com about it. Clearly the bandwidth will be limited because of the connection speed.
After reviewing the articles referenced by ctalia4000 and the HomeNetHelp articles, you'll probably have a better idea of the possibilities - and more questions! Please post back with them.
