gproze,

Printer will be connected with a USB Cable(most likely, instead of an Ethernet cable) to the host computer and setup for printer sharing.

Share Files and Printers between Windows 7 and XP I was told this works both ways.

Thank you.   Microsoft forgot to add the HP 3740 64 bit default OS printer drivers to windows 7 or windows 7 service pack 1  unless it is on another version.  If this system was a 32 bit.   I think I could get the printer to work.   I would do the USB connection but there are some issues.   One issue is someone has an unsecure linksys in my area.   I just don't want to give them access to the printer or my computer.   My other computer is an old system.   It does have a two usb slots & Ethernet cable.    Right now I don't need the Ethernet cable slot till I get high speed.  That why I want to connect them using a crossover Ethernet cable I ordered.    On the printer issue,  I hope I can find a 64 bit printer/scanner combo down the road.

I am not sure if my dell wireless network connection is secure.   How do I find this out and change it if needed?   I just got this dell computer.  I am a advance computer user.   However,  I don't know very much about networking.

gproze,

Not sure exactly what you're trying to say about secure. Windows Firewall should block anyone from trying to access your system. XP and earlier models, you may want to use third party firewall to block.

Run Delete Print Jobs to remove stuck print job(s) from the queue, then restart your computer.

Make sure the printer is not usb cable connected.

Start, control panel, programs and features(add/remove programs), your printer uninstall.

Restart your computer. Make sure the printer was removed. Manual Printer Driver Removal

This gives you a clean start with installing the printer.

Here is a link to HP Deskjet 3740 Color Inkjet Printer Drivers. Select the proper drivers, then click on Next

If the Windows 7 drivers do not work, then do the above procedure and try the Vista drivers in the Vista SP2 Compatibility mode

I already did that no drivers available for the printer.   I did follow HP instructions on getting a driver.    There is NO 64 bit driver on the recovery cd or at windows update.   I couldn't get the windows xp drivers to install.

On the wireless router.   It is built into my system.   I just want to make my router is secure without disabling it.   Another words,  what is the default web address for a Dell Wireless 1703,   so I can secure this.   Also,  I need this info in the future,  so I can hook it up to a wireless router securely aside from a firewall.

Update,  I did re-read it.    Hp claims Microsoft should provided a default OS driver for HP 3740.   Whether it is 32 bit or 64 bit system.   Another words,  how do I do a special driver request & get it from Microsoft?   It is not available using windows update or do I request this driver through dell?

gproze,

I have these known issues...

Dell Studio™ 1536 Is Unable to Print Documents (AMD USB Audio Driver Filter) and uninstall NVIDIA's Network Access Manager

If you recently installed/reinstalled the operating system, The order of installing the drivers is important. How to Download and Install Drivers in the Correct Order

You might need to ask the people at HP Support Forums They may have a way to install the printer.

I am going to forget the networking part even if you use another computer,  you would still need drivers on the remote system.  I just found that out.   I have the inspiron ONE_2020 all-in-one.    I really like it.    I don't know if upgrading to windows 8.1 home or pro would do the trick.   I really like 7.   I don't think I would like 8.   The resolution I use is1280 x 720 landscape,   better for my eyes.     I hope I can get that driver somehow from Microsoft.   There use to be an email you could write Microsoft & explain what you need.   If no cost,  there would send you a link to download the file or send you a email telling how you could order it,  with the cost if you so choose.
