Networking Problems, XPS2, Gigabit Ethernet

Periodically I will be in the middle of something and all of a sudden I lose network connectivity. Can't open websites, can't even get to my router (DLink DI-604). I'm pretty sure I'm not able to get to any network resources (shared printers, other machines, etc.) but I will check that. A reboot usually solves the problem. My XPS2 has the Gigabit ethernet (Intel Pro/1000 MT).

Anyone experiencing anything like this?

I have tried "forcing" my NIC speed at 100mbps/Full Duplex because I recall reading that sometimes the nics drop out by themselves, something to so with autonegotiation of the connection speed. I'll leave it this way and see if it helps.

Just wondering if I'm alone...thanks

Cable connections are good, tested with several cables.

Haven't reinstalled any drivers yet, the system is barely a month old. Will do so if there's an update though. I'll check.

Have you tried re-installing the driver or check the cable connections?

I have a very similar problem with my XPS2 which is two days old. This is my second XPS2.  The first one never had any networking problems.  This one it very unpredictable.  I will boot up the machine and it thinks that cable is disconnected.  For no reason after about 5-10min it connects to my routher DI-624 and everythig is fine.  I reboot the machine and sometimes it connects instantly and other times it doesn't connect at all.  I removed the driver and reinstalled which made no difference at all.  I'm running the latest intel NIC driver with XPpro  7.0.34.2 (7/11/2003).  Very fustrating.

What are all of the Networking protocols associated with the driver?

Client for MS Networks
File & Printer Sharing for MS Networks
QoS Packet Scheduler
NetBeui (I installed this)
TCP/IP

I'm running the same items/services minus the NetBeui.

NetBeui is not necessary since XP uses NetBios (advanced tab under TCP/IP proerties...enable NetBios over TCP/IP under WINS tab).

The ohers are installed by default.  Are they enabled?

All are enabled.

NetBeui helps in my home office LAN, I have at least one Win98SE box, also running NetBeui.

Update ... since flashing my router (Dlink DI-624) the problems seem to have gone away...
