I have disabled XP's firewall and I do not have Zone Alarm.
Now, in my pinging testing, I was able to ping each computer from each other by ip address. I could NOT ping my laptop from the desktop by name nor could I ping the desktop from the laptop by name. It told me host not found. I could ping each computer itself by ip address. When I checked the nic using the ping test I had no problems as well.
ALSO, when I would run ipconfig, the prompt box would open and then quickly close! I could not even find the file it was to generate. May be part of my problems??
