Networking troubles please help!

Question

hi, I have three computers all running windows xp and I would like to network them all. I have tried to network them many time but I can't seem to set up the computer to read each other (such as shared files, Printers, seeing the online users on task manager and seeing the other computers in 'my network places' and other network related places). I have device such as usb hard drives I would like to share. I have also tried many software and program utility to network them but no success. I have a Microsoft base station router connector to a modem router. note sure if this is related but I can utilize remote desktop either..it just simply won't connect. Please help! anyone who can explain this step-by-step I would REALLY appreciate it!

sorry to double post but... I would like to set-up my computer as the main admin if possible..If not is isn't really a problem but would be nice. thank so much again

Not knowing exactly what you have done, makes it diffiucult to know where to start.  Still, the most common reason people have problems with File and Printer Sharing is third party firewalls (like Norton, McAfee, Zone Alarm, etc.) that are not configured properly to allow local network access. where or how can I figure out where to configure the firewalls and such that I am using?

It would help to know which firewall(s) you have.  Each is different, but each should have come with some documentation that one could actually read to see how to do it.   Steve

So did you read the documentation or do you want me to look it up for you on the internet?  If the latter, you need to supply the version numbers, as each are different.   Steve
