Networking Windows 2000 and XP computers

I am trying to set up a home network. Right now, I have both the Windows 2000 computer and the Windows XP computer connected and running to the internet. Now, I want to be able to share files and printers, etc on both computers. When I am on the Windows XP machine, I can "see" both computers in "My Network Places" but when I try to click on the Windows 2000 computer to access it, it says it's "inaccessible." When I am on the Windows 2000 computer, I cannot "see" or access the Windows XP computer at all.. It doesn't even recognize it as part of the workgroup. Both computers are in the same workgroup, which I just named "workgroup" and both are logged on using the same username "Administrator".  I have tried a bunch of sites, including Microsoft Knowledge Base, which threw 199 articles at me that I do not have time to sort through and try, and sites like HomeNetHelp, PracticallyNetworked and Wown, I find a little confusing to sort through too.

What is the makeup of this network?  ICS or router?  More than likely, a third party firewall running on the XP machine is blocking the connection.  Configure the firewall to inlcude the IP range of the router scope (range of addresses) and that should do the trick.

Thanks! It turns out that my Norton Internet Security had to be set up to allow my range of IP addresses. And after that, I configured my network so that now I can print from anywhere in the network to either of my 2 printers.

I just have one more question: for ease of use, I put a shortcut on my desktop to the other computer. It says "Shortcut to < >" (for example).. For some reason, when I want to connect from my Win2000 computer to my XP computer, it connects right away, but when I want to go from the XP computer to the Win2000 computer, it always asks me for my username and password. Why is this?

Thanks!!

Is the same firewall running on the 2000 machine?

Actually, the Norton Internet Security is on the Windows 2000 machine. The only firewall running on the XP machine is the standard Windows Firewall included in XP.
