networking

I'm getting a dimentions 8400 I have a windows 98 dell xps comuter a cable conection to comcast both computers will be on the same table. What will I need to use both computers on the internet at the same time?

So long as your comcast modem can connect by ethernet (not USB), you will need a cable/dsl router that should cost you less than $30.  If your modem can only connect to a computer by USB, then it gets more complicated.  If this is the case, post back and we can offer suggestions.

If there is a jack on your modem that looks like a telephone jack, only larger, then it can connect by ethernet.  If it only has a jack that connects with a flat rectangular metal connector, then it is only USB.  Some modems have both ethernet and USB connectors.

The box with the 4 lites supplyed by comcast has a phone plug that goes to a small box that has tow flashing lights yellow and red one side of box has phone conectiun the other is square metal when it attaches to coputer it is usb. this computer is a 5 year old xps.

the 4 light box is Terayon tj 715 x .     the two light smaller box is SMC easy connect usb ethernet conecter 2102 usb/eth thanks Emery
