Networking

I am trying to find any info out there on networking. I have just purchased a new Studio Laptop with Windows 7. I want to network it with my Desk PC that is Vista. Will this work or do I need to convert them to be the same? Also the new one has a 2007 Word and the old one has 2003 Word. Will they network or not?

Word is a program that has nothing to do with networking, so don't worry about that. Read about Networking in Windows 7 Help, then do some online research. You don't say what type of Internet connection you have, but if you have broadband,  the easy way to set up a network is to get a wireless router. That way you'll be able to network and share the Internet connection. Your desktop can be wired to the router directly with Ethernet cable and your laptop can connect to it wirelessly. Programs and operating systems do not matter in a network. You won't be able to use the Win 7 Home Group, but that's no big deal. You'll still be able to set up a home network and share files and printers.

Thanks for the info. The router is a WRT160N Ultra RangePlus Wireless-N Broadband Router. Does this fit the bill?
