Grasshopper,

Please reply to this thread rather than the other one as it will get very confusing if you post messages all over the place and then expect to get consistent help. To start troubleshooting this problem, go to Start > Run and type cmd then click OK. In the command prompt window that opens, type ipconfig /all then hit the enter key. Write down the output from this command or select it and save it to a txt file, then copy this output into a reply to this message.

This ipconfig output appears to have been generated with the ethernet cable unplugged and while using a dialup connection to the internet.  It therefore doesn't tell me anything.  You need to connect the etherenet cable to router in order for the output from the ipconfig command to give us useful information.

The Brodcom adapter is the ethernet adatper.  You had better explain how you have this set up, because it now appears that you are still connecting to the modem by USB.  What you need to do is connect the modem to the router with a ethernet cable, then connect the computer to one of the router's LAN ports by an ethernet cable.  The USB cable cannot be used to connect the computer and modem when you use the router.

You were 90% of the way there earlier when you hit the setup page.  You need to tell the modem what kind of connection you have.  Once you set it for a DSL (always connection) you need to provide your username and password and then the gateway will allow a connection thru the system.

Thanks everybody for your advice I found it very helpful.I powered down everything and started again, the problem was traced to a faulty ethernet cable, installed a new one and we are up and running.Cheers Mick
