New Network Card Problems

Question

This is a network and modem problem. I purchased a 2500 Laptop for a friend. After several attempts to hook it up to a network I realized the enthernet adapter doesn't work. This device is internal and appears to be a modem/NIC combo. The cover of the laptop says there is a Actiontec modem inside. But the device manager says it's a Lucent Win Modem and the NIC is completely uninstalled. When I put the service tag into the dell site it tell me that my origional configuration is an Actiontec and desnt have a modem. So im not sure whether the warrenty will still cover it or even why XP has the drive for the modem and not the NIC.

You have the Actiontec, and the modem chipset was made by Lucent, later known as Agere.  The best driver for both the modem and NIC and below - the Actiontec Intel 8255x Ethernet driver link is what you want.

Nevermind, I have a NIC port but no card inside for it. Thanks though!!
