New Network Problem

I just got a Linksys router with speedbooster because I am getting a wireless internet. It is going to be a few weeks before they can install the dish and receiver so I decided to do a network to share my dial up just to see if I could do it!! I could not get the two computers to communicate. I ran the wizards and think I did all the right things but I am missing something. Any ideas on common mistakes when setting up a home network? It is my 9100 with a wireless card and my 8200 with a wireless adapter that I want to set up. Thanks

You will have to run your wireless cards in adhoc mode in order for them to communicate with each other, and you will have to add Windows' Internet Connection Sharing to the dialup connection.

I don't think he has to set it up as adhoc, he has a router.

I would check and make sure that you don't have a firewall installed. Firewalls by default block network connections. You should set a range of ip addresses that are acceptable if you do have a firewall.

fenderguitarguy,

You are correct, I saw two wireless cards and forget the router.  It doesn't have to be set up adhoc, but the router has to be put into access point mode, because it will not be routing a broadband internet connection.
