Newer version of WLAN utility?
I have a Latitude D620 with a 1390 mini card Rev 4.4. I am using the Dell utility software V4.100.15.8.
I am currently using WPA for encryption on my home network and would like to upgrade it to WPA2, but the Dell utility doesn't seem to have that option.
Am I just not seeing it, or is there a newer version of the utility that would allow the use of WPA2?
Thanks for any help on this.
Andy

andy.wpg,
If I'm correct, I believe that Windows machines with XP SP3 and Vista machines have the capability to use WPA2 security. I have my home network setup using these Recommended Wireless Router Settings because I have a few wireless devices that do NOT support WPA2 security. I have NOT had any issues using WPA-PSK(TKIP) Security(Personal) and have not had any attacks on my network. Using a strong password prevents people from getting in, plus I have also added Mac Filtering to those settings. Remember any time you change anything in the wireless router, all wireless devices have to be reconfigured to the new settings. Some devices will not work with WPA2 Security.
The Wi-Fi Protected Access 2 (WPA2)/Wireless Provisioning Services Information Element (WPS IE) update for Windows XP with Service Pack 2 is available

Thanks Rick.
I checked the link you left and I have everything set up as that recommends, except that I don't broadcast the SSID. I've made a strong password, have MAC filtering on , have updated the router firmware, and am using channel 6.
The firewall has not indicated any attacks or probes on my network.
I guess I'm just paranoid and wanted to step up the security a bit. Seems like too much trouble since it's working GREAT.
BTW - I read that MAC filtering is a minor annoyance at best, since the MAC address is sent in the clear and any MAC sniffer will find it.
The old saying is probably true, 'locks only keep out honest people'.
Thanks again, Rick

Andy,
Maybe you'd want to change the locks on your house, first! :emotion-5:

Thanks so VERY much Rick! Now I have something ELSE to be paranoid about! :emotion-1:
Actually, I do have a very good alarm system (I'm a tech) and a dog - plus a really bad temper when someone messes with my stuff!
I've thought about upgrading to Medeco locks, just haven't got around to it yet.
