NIC device not connected

I have a brand new Latitude D610 with a Broadcom NetXtreme 57xx Gigabit Controller.  Out of the box, the Local Area Connection is disabled when plugged in. 

 

Device Status states:

 

Currently, this hardware device is not connected to the computer (Code 45).  To fix this problem, reconnect this hardware device to the computer.  Click troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device.

 

"device not connected"?  How do I fix that?
