I actually have the same question. I purchased my PC about a month ago, and have been using the web just fine. My PC is free of spyware and viruses, and yet suddenly my internet connection went from over 4000 kbps to about 19 kbps speed on the web. That is a MAJOR change. My ISP checked the line, and everything is fine so it is something local. I noticed that the NIC card lights are orange and yellow instead of green. I need to test the NIC Card as well. I did a system restore, and I have rolled back the drivers. Still nothing. Of course I have been holding for over 30 minutes for a DELL support technician! :smileymad: Let me know if you find something and I will do the same.
You will never guess. After holding on the line for about 45 minutes for the DELL support representative I finally got a hold of one....and the PC started working just fine. What the heck?!? :smileysad: I am not sure...but I did ask the rep if there was a tool to test the NIC card, and his response was "no". Sorry...
best ting to do is completely reinstall the nic, go to device manager, uninstall the device, and power the comp back on, it should reinstall the device, if not, u might need an updated driver. this happened to me a few times and this solution worked. also if ur running cable modem or dsl modem, completely unplug the device for a min then plug it back in, this process (powercyclicing) fixes many connection issues. also, if ur running cable modem, make sure modem has straight line from outside ur house to ur comp, not split to tv. i juss had this prob and it was fixed by cable technician. the splitter worked for many months but all of a sudden (after a thunder storm) my modem had some bad connection issues, if none of this still doesnt work, reply
