No Internet connection since lightning strike

My apt. was recently hit by lightning. My modem was fried and apparently something in my Inspiron 530S also.  I replaced the modem and had my Internet provider check connection from their end and they say that my ethernet cable is not showing connected. I replaced the ethernenet cable and still nothing.  The cable does not light up at the connection on my tower either, which the service provider says shows that I have a problem.   I had a external NIC that Iran through a different port and it was working but now it is not cooperating either.  Any advice on what I might try replacing (I am mechanical but not very electronical).
