No internet with router

I have 2 computers, 1 Dimension 8200 with XP Home and 1 8100 with ME, that used to be
connected to Verizon DSL via a D-Link 704 router. It's no
longer working. I can get on the internet by going
directly through modem, but not with router. Here's the
IP config information in case that helps...

DHCP enabled
IP address 192.168.0.179
Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway 192.168.0.1
DHCP server 192.168.0.1
Primary WINS server blank
Secondary WINS server blank

Ethernet adapter
Description PPP adapter
Physical address 44-45-53-54-00-00
DHCP enabled yes
IP address 0.0.0.0
Subnet Mask 0.0.0.0
DHCP server 255.255.255.255
Primary WINS server blank
Secondary WINS server blank

I don't think the router is picking up an IP address. On
the configuration page I click connect and it waits a
couple seconds and then just comes up again with the
connect button. And all the fields on the page are 0's.
(IP address, subnet mask, etc)

On the router, when I view the log, it always ends with "authentication error"

I have tried reentering the password and user id, multiple resets on the router, power recycles....everything I could

thing of.

Can anyone help me????

A couple of questions :

(1) Does your DSL provider allow you to have multiple IP addresses via DHCP, and do you have to tell them which MAC addresses they are for....i.e which host or rouer devices you have plugged in ?

(2) Have you tried releasing the IP address when plugged in directly , before plugging in the router to DSL lline ?

(3) Is your router running the latst/correct s/w for receiving a network address via DHCP ?

Thanks for your reply.  I actually did get it to work with the router.  I changed my password with Verizon, deleted ICS and IPX, and entered "Verizon.net" in the router setup.  (I had used just Verizon).  Anyway, I can get on the internet.  Now the problem is it's agonizingly slow....I can't win.  I've seen alot of posts about that, so I'm going to check them out and see what I come up with.

Thanks again
