No LAN Connection

Hello, I'm a schoolteacher, in my classroom I have a D-series laptop with a Wireless 1350 WLAN MiniPCI network card...for whatever reason, if I try plugging my local LAN line into it, I can't get any network connection. I work in the basement where there is no wireless network, so the LAN line is my only option, but I can't get it to work.

I've been to the Dell support page, entered my service code, and downloaded whatever drivers there were associated with my network card, but still no luck. Can anyone help me?

OK. This is a bit confusing. If I am reading your post correctly:
1) You connect to your school network (from the classroom) using your wireless card.
2) You are trying to connect to you local network at home (???) using a hard wired connection?
OR
3) You are trying to connect to the school network from the basement of the school with a hard wired connection?

Thanks very much for your response...I'm trying to connect at school using the hard wired connection. It is a wireless card, but the area of the building I'm in doesn't have access to the wireless network, so I'm trying to connect via the wired LAN line...but so far no luck.

Got it!
When trying to connect via cable, are you running on AC power or battery? If on battery, it's possible that your power options have switched off the internal NIC as a power saving option.

Have you tried another computer on this cable, and if so can it connect?
