Dave I have an update....I did install sp2...also with the pc I got a whole bunch of cd's...one in particular it has device drivers/diagnostics and utilities/computer documentation...could the file I need be in that disk...also after I installed sp2 the yellow sm is gone not sure where it went...still no lan connection any help with this new info

Yes the utilites disc should have your network driver. Broadcom 4401. And all other drivers.

dave. I did d/l the first file to my working pc save it to my portable hd and transfered to my dell..tried to open it and got a message .to open search the internet for file to open..is there an easier way to get an exe file

It is a self extracting exe file. Do not download with Dell download Manager, use Browser download.

OK I just installed the broadcom advance control suite, but now it is asking for an installed adapter in which there is none what do now which one is the adapter file

Dave,

I did find the chip set driver and the other lan driver on the  driver cd and installed and everything is working, thanks for the help....one other question...I like to load windows 7 on the 2400 dimension....is there a video driver available that will support windows 7, if so where do I go to download it...

Kas, you most likely have intergrated video (on the motherboard), Win7 may have a driver, or it will suggest one from "Windows Update" to install. If not you will have to use XP driver installed in "Compatibility Mode". How to use Compatibility Mode, link below.

Does dell have a video driver for 2400 dimension which supports windows 7...I tried to run the 2400 in windows 7 and it only has on resolution and there is no way to change the font size...I really do not want to install virtual xp....I tried to install it on this machine which is a HP and the cpu does not have virtual mode...now I cannot get the prog off the machine..

If you're using the onboard Video (the video that is built into the system) and didn't pay for an upgraded type of video card then that means you're using the Intel 82845G video adapter.  I couldn't find any Windows 7 drivers for it.  See Intel's website as follows:
