i have a latitude c610 the service tag is in the profile. it shows no network adapter in system or any benchmarking software but the port is physically present in the machine and also a standard in c610 laptops. i am not sure what is wrong with it.

The device may be disabled in the BIOS. While the system is booting, tap the "F2" key until the BIOS System Setup is entered. Then page forward until you find the entry for the integrated network device, and enable it if it's not. If the device is physically present and enabled, and still doesn't work, you'll either need to get the motherboard replaced or use an external (PCMCIA/Cardbus) network adapter.
Hmmm...strangely, there's no reference to the Integrated NIC is the C610 User's Guide. Surely there's an option in the BIOS setup for enabling and disabling it!

HI! guys
thanks for your quick replies. i have tried evrything form looking in the bios to checking dell sevice manual for this model. they have not mentioned anything about the onboard lan in the service manual. i have just upgraded the bios to a16 which is latest one from dell. it doesn't have any option for enabling or disabling the on board lan in the bios(even in old bios).after i upgraded the bios and restarted the laptop, it showed me some gigabit ethernet in the system summary but said that the device cannot start(code10) so i uninstalled it thinking that i will install the proper driver. again when i rebooted it same thing happened it won't recognise any lan in system. i am back to where i was. i think i just have to buy a pcmcia one. thanks for your time anyway.
