Are you sure the computer is getting a valid IP address from the router?  It would be helpful if you posted the results of the ipconfig command for us to see.

Are you running any security on the router, such as hiding the SSID, MAC Address Filtering, or WEP or WPA encryption?  If so, have you tried temporarily disabling these features as a troubleshooting step in figuring out where the problem lies?

You are getting a proper IP address from your router, so you should be connecting.  Have you tried booting to Safe Mode with Network support to see if you can connect from there.  If you can, that would tell us that something running from Normal statup is blocking the connection.

Steve,

Thanks again for your help. I will have to call support and see if they can access my laptop remotley. Surfing through this forum I see it seems pretty common yet there doesnt seem to be a real solution.

My connection has never been particulary stable and cut off when connected.

I will keep you updated and hope I can help others.

I had the same problem and after having excluded the firewall and all other possible errors I found out that the solution was to run LSPFIX the Winsock 2 repair utility from Cexx.org ( Winsockfix might work as well). I guess it was a driver update that has caused problems on my winsock file so that webpages could not be found anymore.

Thanks for info but I tried both the utilities mentioned and I still have same problem. I have even unistalled the drivers and the card re-installing from my original disks which came with the system.

I have emailed support and see if I can get a replacement card it has never been stable but I thought maybe it was the norm.

After investigation on the net seems like alot of people have the same problem even a guy whom I work with has the exact same problem on the same card.

I think Intel and Dell need to investigate this further. I will keep you posted on how I get on and thanks again for your help.

You never bothered to follow up on my previous attempt to help you.  Does it work if you boot to Safe Mode with networking support?

UPDATE

I have spent many hours speaking with Dell technicians (UK) who have been very helpful however still no closer to sorting out this problem.

We have gone through the usual checks and they agree that its not a hardware or router issue. The next steps are to remote access my laptop and check again failing this they advise the only other option is to do factory reset.

A friend at work has the exact same problem and has the exact same Pro-Wireless card on his non Dell laptop. I think its a corrupt driver however I have tried rolling back previous one with no solution.

Any comments or advise would be gratfully received.
