No wireless connection after installing latest windows updates

Hi There.
Dell Inspiron 1501, 2GB Ram. Vista home premium. Belkin Mimo + wireless modem router.

Since the latest automatic updates have been installed, I am unable to connect to the internet. My connection is only local to the router. If I do a system restore prior to the automatic updates the connection works fine. Not an ideal solution as the updates still install each day, forcing me to perform a daily system restore.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated thanks.

Can you figure out exactly and specifically which of the updates is causing this problem?  With that information, it may be possible to search the internet and see if the experts out there have seen the problem elsewhere and come up with a fix.

Thanks for your reply. Since my initial post my restore points have somehow disappeared and now I cant restore back to a previous date where the wireless worked. I am now unable to connect completely!! I have downloaded and reinstalled the wireless 1490 mini card with no further success. I am connected to my router, just cant jump the further step to the internet. Have seen others with the same problem since installing vista updates, although not everyone experiences the problem. No-one seems to know what is causing it on some machines and not others. I am now at my wits end and growing poorer by the day as I'm having to connect via my mobile phone.

To help troubleshoot this problem, on the computer with the problem, go to Start > Run and type cmd then click OK. In the command prompt window that opens, type ipconfig /all then hit the enter key. Write down the output from this command or select it and save it to a txt file, then copy this output into a reply to this message.

You will notice that I am connected through VMC lite, which is a mobile phone broadband modem connection. Please let me know if I need to disconnect from this and try connecting through my modem router to give you the information needed. Thanks

Should I be fortunate enough to find a solution I will post it. Maybe before then I will have reformatted and went back to XP :smileywink: In the meantime, thanks for your time and greetings from the Emerald Isle.

Apologies Steve, all this is new to me. Right, I show as being 'connected with limited connectivity'.

Not a lot of information having run the command this time.

I have 4. The VMC Lite I am currently connected to, one for a dial up ISP, one for broadband via a wired usb modem and the 1490 wireless minicard. Only the VMC is connected to the laptop at the moment and I am unable to connect via the 1490 as we know.

That's a realy puzzle.  The network adapters don't show up in the ipconfig output, yet they are present in the network connections.  I am at a loss, sorry.  I suggest that you post in the Software Vista section of the forum and see if any of the Vista capable people over there can help.  Good luck.

Broadcom 440x10/100 integrated controller

Dell Wireless 1490 Dual Band WLAN Mini-card

Neither has a yellow exclamation mark and under properties/general tab, both devices are working correctly.

Since we are troubleshooting the wireless connection, it doesn't help that you ran this command while it wasn't trying to connect by wireless.  Furthermore the output doesn't even show the presence of a wireless network adapter.  Disconnect, get within range of the router and run the command again.  Post the output.

I don't know how much I can help becuase I have no experined with Vista.

Open Network Connections by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking Network and Internet, clicking Network and Sharing Center, and then clicking Manage network connections. What network connections show up there?

Is that the complete output?  It does not show any network adapters at all.   If you open Device Manager and expand the listing for Network Adapters, what devices are listed there?
