No wireless Internet connection running Windows ME

I have an old Dimension L866r running Windows ME that I recently installed a Linksys Wireless-B PCI Adapter to.  There is definitely a wireless connection, and I am able to "ping" the router, but I can't connect to the Internet.  Linksys says there is a TCP/IP problem with the Dimension.  Is there anything I can do or do I need to upgrade to XP?  Can my system even support running XP with a Pentium III 866 MHz processor and 258 MB of ram?  Any help would be appreciated.

Try opening your control panel and right clicking your Network icon.  Bring up its properties list and locate the box showing the installed network items.  Right click TCP/IP to get its properties and make sure the box labeled Automatically Acquire IP Address is marked.  If it isn't, click on it to mark it, click apply, and ok to exit.  You may need to restart the computer to get it working.

Wireless on an ME machine...that should be interesting.  At least the card sees the router.  Go into the advnaced TCP/IP properties for the adpater and to the WINS tab to enable NetBios over TCP IP.

hi have some questions for you:
1. How many computers are connected in your network? How many are wired and wireless?
2. Are you using a DSL or Cable connection?

I have two computers working on the network - both wireless.  The router is connected to DSL, but later this week switching to cable

Are you running a firewall?  I know when I first went wireless my firewall was blocking the computer's attempt to acquire the IP address.  I was running Norton and found that I could either enable the network detector or make my default gateway a trusted address.
