Onboard Ethernet Adapter
Hi, I have a Inspiron 8100 I bought 3 years ago.
When i ordered it i chose a cardbus nic rather then one that was built into my laptop.
The cardbus one is a xircom and its starting to go bad, i have noticed that dell did install an onboard Ethernet card as well though i think its called a Mini-PCI card right? Anyway it has the modem enabled now i think which i will never ever use.
Is there a way i can disable my internal modem, and enable my internal ethernet adapter?

It could be just a modem. That type of card was offered with 3 option. Modem only, NIC only and modem/NIC combo. If you have the combo card there should be 2 connectors on it, 1 for a 2 wire connection (for the modem) and a 8 wire connection for the NIC. If you have a loose connector that has 8 wires coming into it and there is NOT a similar connector on the card then all you have is a modem card. You can buy a combo card for it. I have never seen just the NIC card, that doesn't mean you can't get on but I knkow the combo card is about 30 buck from Dell spare parts.
