Onboard modem in 2350 doesn't work

I can't get my computer to recognise that I have a modem,  I think this is because it's not a seperate modem but part of the motherboard and therefore i can;t just pick a standard windows modem and try and make that work. I've looked through the downloads but cant find any drivers or anything that could make it work.

I formatted my computer a few weeks ago but never tried connecting to the internet before so i don't know whether it worked before and it's something to do with the format. I don't have much installed on the computer yet so if someone thinks it might help and it's a last resort I will reformat but I don't really want to to be honest.

Oh...btw...I'm running Win XP...I do have fedora core linux on the comp as well but I don't think I can get the web on that to work either...only tried quickly though because the main things I want the web for are on Windows.

If anyone can help I'll be very appreciative!

After you re-installed Windows XP did you also re-install the Chipset driver?  That is needed in order for the system to function correctly with all the hardware devices.  Here is a link to the Chipset driver for your model.

A couple of more things to try....  First, check the Dell Resource CD that came with your computer for any modem drivers.   That CD usually has copies of the drivers to all the hardware installed on your system.

Secondly,  is the modem showing up in Windows Device Manager?  If not, try clearing the CMOS.  This will force the BIOS to take a fresh inventory of all the computer hardware and can be useful in resolving hardware detection problems.  To clear the CMOS check out the link below:

ok...tried the cmos thing...and now my monitor doesn't work...well...it's not the monitor..it's the input..i tried with a different monitor and that didn't work either....think it's probabaly the graphics part of the mobo.

Clearing the CMOS shouldn't have affected the on-board video.  There is no setting in the BIOS that would have changed by the CMOS clearing.  Your best bet at this point would be to call Dell Tech Support and they can walk you through the steps in trying to troubleshoot the problem.

i think it's probably too late for dell to be any helop now tbh...luckily i was kinda gonna get a graphics card anyway...my only worry is that since it's all on the mobo might be kinda an issue..
