Without knowing which model computer you have, it is difficult to give a detailed answer.  My guess is that you did not install the chipset drivers as the first device drivers after reinstalling Windows.   Once the chipset drivers are installed, you will need to install the drivers for your network adapter.

I figured out this problem (needed to install the software of the diagnostic disc) and I am able to connect now.  Now, the annoying problem is that internet explorer works fine when connected to AOL, but when I'm signed off (AOL Broadband - usually I didn't use AOL and just connected with my cable modem through comcast) but now if AOL is not on, the "no connection - work offline or try again) box comes up EVERY TIME.  If I click try again, it works normally, but obviously, this should not be happening.  I may download firefox to replace IE anyway and  maybe that'd fix it (I doubt it though) and I made IE my default browser and it still occurs.  I'm calling it a night since I'm exhausted dealing with this thing and maybe I missed something to install on one of the discs but any help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED.  Thanks again.

I'm sorry, as soon as I see AOL mentioned, I have to drop out of the discussion.  I have no experience with AOL nor do I ever want to have an experience with AOL.   Hopefully someone else who has allowed AOL onto their computer can help you.
