orinoco mini pci wireless card / WEP/ PROBLEMS

Hello All,

Since dell is not selling the True Mobile 1150 (Orinoco based mini PCI card) I got one on the e-bay and installed it  in my Inspiron 600m but I can't get it to work with WEP enabled, It works fine without WEP.

So my question is how is the WEP implemented in software(driver) or in the hardware( the card itself) I am trying to figure out if the card is defective or not.

With WEP enabled other laptop works fine, so there is nothing wrong with AP or set up on the notebook.

so how do I go about debugging this?

Without WEP everything works fine

WITH WEP no communication with AP( doesnot get the IP Address etc) but other notebook works fine

Thanks a lot

What operating system and what router are you using??....are you manually setting encryption in the router or is it generated through a passphrase??

Hi,

I am using Windows XP, Linksys BFW11S4 router and  the key is generated using the passphrase. With WEP turned on the wireless icon on the statusbar says it is connected the network at 11Mps but doesnot get the IP/DNS addresses from the router.

thanks

The passphrase only works with linksys cards.  Access your router and manually set your encryption, then carefully enter the new wep key into the connection properties.
