Other Devices - Network Controller

In Device Manager I have a warning as follows, and don't know how to get the drivers to rectify it.

Network Controller

Device Type: Other Devices
Manufacturer: Unknown
Location: PCI Bus 1, Device 3, function 0

Status
The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)
To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver.

I've tried reinstalling the driver, but windows cannot find it on my machine or on the Windows CD-Rom. I've also tried searching the internet but no cigar.

When I connect removable storage to my machine via the usb port (ipod, memory stick) also get this popup warning message from in the system tray:

Windows Delayed Write Failed
Windows was unable to save all the data for the file E:. The data has been lost. This error may be caused by a failure of your computer hardware or network connection. Please tye to save this file elsewhere.

Not sure if this is related or not?

Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to the Forum,

Has anyone reinstalled your Operating System?

If so, there are many Drivers and Utilities that are either not included in Windows,
or (like Video and TouchPad) have much better versions available from your Dell
Product Support site (Look at menu top left of this page), start with Reinstall
Guide for your system.

It may suggest using your CD for Drivers, but you are usually better off going
to your Downloads & Drivers (same menu) and finding most recent versions.

In any case, be sure to follow the recommended order of install, usually start with
Chipset Drivers (all) and Notebook System Software, from there just choose Drivers
that are needed for your installed hardware and needs, rebooting between each install.

Thanks Art.

I recently overhauled my machine (format, re-installed of OS winxp pro) due to a virus my anti-virus could not remove and I couldn't remove or find instructions to remove manually.... Last resort! Horrible business altogether.

I'll give what you say a bash and let you know how I got on.

When you re-loaded the OS, did you also install the Chip Set drivers and/or Notebook system software?

Yes, they both have been installed.

I've tried what was suggested by Art but no joy.

Following Chipset and NSS there are others needed.

On my D800, this would start with the Texas Instrument PCI... that is listed as a Chipset Driver and should have
preceeded the rest.

In addition, under Network Drivers, begin with Broadcom and then add from the long list below that, just the Drivers
for the hardware installed in your system. Note the address that they install to (in Windows Explorer) and
check System; Hardware, Device Manager for problems, at times you will need to "Update Driver.. let me choose,
have disk..." and 'browse' to the address noted for an install of the correct driver.
