Outlook Express problem

I may not be in the right place, I've been every place else.   I have a Dell Dimension 2400.  I use Outlook Express 6.0 for e-mail.  My ISP is cox.com; I'm on cable not dialup.  When I forward e-mails with pictures, they convert to .dat files and they open up as garbage, or people just can't open them.  If it's just text - not a problem at all.

After I click 'send', a Symantec window pops up and usually says 'sending 1 of 1 message'.  If there's a picture, .jpg, graphic, or whatever, in the e-mail, the Symantec message says 'sending 1 of 2 (or 3 or 4) message'.  Something is splitting (?) e-mails with pictures.  Make sense?  It's driving me and the receivers nuts, but especially me.

Thanks for any help.

This may be caused by a recent Symantec upgrade because there has been several posts about this type of problem or one very similar.  Try disabling the Symantec firewall and see what happens.  If all is good, then you know you have a configuration error with the Symantec firewall.

For a recent graduate I just installed Symantec Internet Security download (from last August 30) which was from version 2004. Since I had to download again today (same Order number, they gave me the password given that Order) I am not sure whether the update continued to be 2005. In any case, I assume the bug is in the 2006 version?

Thanks for the advice.  I disabled the firewall and sent an e-mail.  Instead of scanning it into 4 e-mails, it only scanned it into 2.  Maybe I'm making some progress???
